Raiders prove yet again why the team should be dissolved and a new franchise given to another city.
It looks like Raiders coach Lane Kiffin is history.
So next year it will be their third coach in three years. It looked like by hiring Kiffin and giving him lots of power, Al Davis was actually going to make a good faith effort to fix the team.
That sure lasted a long time.
The guy is completely off his rocker and should have retired long ago. The team called the "Raiders" has become such an embarrassment that the NFL should seriously consider dissolving the franchise and give another city a team. How about Portland, Oregon? They have a NBA team, why not NFL too? Or maybe New Mexico? There are lots of states without NFL franchises and would probably love to have one. Sure the new team probably wouldn't be that good at first, but it could hardly be worse than the Raiders are right now. At least then they could get an owner/GM who actually wanted to create a winning team.
One thing, though, is for certain: The Chargers can chalk up another two guaranteed wins next year.

Ivy League Populism
I generally appreciate Victor Davis Hanson as a historian. He's written some excellent books on ancient Greece and Rome that I've used to write papers of my own. But he also writes some interesting political commentary for various websites. This is an interesting piece on elite (what he calls "Ivy League) populism, as it applies to the current Democratic presidential candidates. Here's a good quote:

Do they really believe this stuff, or is it just rhetoric to get votes? I don't know, but it is interesting to think about.
Barack Obama may have gone to exclusive private schools. He and his wife may both be lawyers who between them have earned four expensive Ivy League degrees. They may make about a million dollars a year, live in an expensive home and send their kids to prep school. But they are still apparently first-hand witnesses to how the American dream has gone sour. Two other Ivy League lawyers, Hillary and Bill, are multimillionaires who have found America to be a land of riches beyond most people's imaginations. But Hillary also talks of the tragic lost dream of America.

Looking ahead towards the Democratic Nomination
So now that Obama has crushed Hillary in Wisconsin, her only hopes left are Ohio and Texas. She needs to not only win those two states, but win them convincingly. If she just squeaks by, and they go into the convention with Obama having a significant lead in popular vote, there's no way she is going to get the nomination. So things aren't over for her, but they are looking grim.
I think McCain will match up well with Obama. It's going to come down to the wire, but I hope McCain wins for the sole reason that he doesn't advocate surrender in Iraq.

Contracts Midterm looms large.
This Wednesday I'll be having the only midterm of the semester, in Contracts. It shouldn't be too difficult, but I still have to study for it. So if you have any questions about damages or remedies for breach or interpreting a contract, just ask! I'll have all the answers!

Chargers Upset Undefeated Colts!
You have to do something in the off-season, right? So I went back and watched the game from 2005 when the Chargers went into Indianapolis and took down the then 13-0 Colts. It was a great game. Here are some highlights via YouTube.
Entrances to hell discovered in UK
Apparently there are several dozen entrances to hell in the United Kingdom. I like 23 the best.
The NFL must be really scared of Matt Walsh.
There's a new article about NFL Commissioner Goodell's meeting with Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) out at ESPN.
It's a round-up of what happened at the meeting, and lists what issues Specter wants to pursue, and what he finds unacceptable about Goodell's responses.
Here's a gem, though, from the end:
Can you say "witness intimidation"? Good Lord, whatever that Walsh guy knows must be freaking horrible.

Here's a gem, though, from the end:
Specter said he was concerned to learn from Walsh's attorney that an NFL security representative, Dick Farley, had been investigating Walsh. Specter said: "I confronted them on that, and Goodell says, 'Yeah, he [Farley] works for us. Yeah, he is a security guy, but we didn't know he was investigating him.' "
